The new guidance is supported by Rupert Bear which is designed to help nurseries, children's centres and Sure Start groups achieve their Green Flag status. Visit the website for more information and activity sheets about the early years programme.

JOURNEY TO ANTARCTICA
In 2007 a headteacher took part in an expedition to the Antarctica. From his experience he has developed a number of curriculum activities. The activities cover almost all curricular subjects and are based around different aspects of the Antarctica. He has developed lessons plans to help you teach the activites which can easily be downloaded. Visit the website for more information.
SEEDS FOR SCHOOLS
Ed Balls has written to all headteachers alerting them to the 'Seeds for Schools' scheme. The initiative by the Forestry Commission and the News of the World will see all primary and secondary schools in Britain receive a pack of 200 tree seeds and a DVD this Spring. The Forestry Commission is working with other climate change experts and the News of the World throughout 2009 to try and save at least 500,000 tonnes of CO2. The idea is for pupils to plant and care for the seeds as many of those seeds will grow into small tree shoots. This would give children the opportunity, as a fun and creative school project, to approach local businesses that have an area of greenery, or organisations such as councils and local wildlife trusts, to take over care of the shoots, and nurture them into trees.
THE GREAT PLANT HUNT
The Royal Botanic Gardens and the Wellcome Trust have created The Great Plant Hunt, which aims to get primary school children out and about and excited by nature. Resources are mapped to the primary science curriculum and include activities for children aged five to 11. For more information please visit The great plant hunt website.
SNAKE CRAZYYY
Visit www.snakes.together.com to create your own snakes for your house. The snakes help to insulate your house by keeping draughts out! You can teach children how to make the snakes so they too can make them at home. It helps to teach children how to save energy and money, whilst having fun making the snakes.
SUSTAINABLE LIFESTYLES

Global Dimension in Schools
How can you incorporate the Global Dimension into the Curriculum?
There are many ways in which you may already be incorporating the Global Dimension in your school but you do not know of it yet. There are 8 concepts of the Global Dimension they are;
- Conflict Resolution
- Social Justice
- Values and Perceptions
- Sustainable Development
- Interdependence
- Human Rights
- Diversity
- Global Citizenship
You may not realise but if your school is involved in Fair Trade, anti-bullying campaigns, healthy eating, or any campaign similar you are already completing parts of the Global Dimension, if you feel there are areas that you have not touched upon within the Global Dimension but you wish to teach the children it, here are some activities that will help you do this.
Here is a top tips guide to help cover the Global Dimension in schools. The guide looks at 10 ways the Global Dimension is already linked in our lives and communities, but also looks at ways you can develop it in schools. Click here for the guide
