Global Dimension in Schools
How can you incorporate the Global Dimension into the Curriculum?
There are many ways in which you may already be incorporating the Global Dimension in your school but you do not know of it yet. There are 8 concepts of the Global Dimension they are;
- Conflict Resolution
- Social Justice
- Values and Preceptions
- Sustainable Development
- Interdependence
- Human Rights
- Diversity
- Global Citizenship
You may not realise but if your school is involved in Fair Trade, anti-bullying campaigns, healthy eating, or any campaign similar you are already completing parts of the Global Dimension, if you feel there are areas that you have not touched upon within the Global Dimension but you wish to teach the children it, here are some activities that will help you do this.
Community, Faith and Fairtrade

In the run up to FT Fortnight 2007, in a collaborative project with artists Jeanette Porter (www.envart.co.uk) and Claire Weetman (www.claireweetman.co.uk) and Sara Parker (Liverpool John Moores University) we ran workshops with six different faith and community groups across Liverpool and in the Wirral. The focus of the workshops was to make FT Statement flags, using Nepalese prayer flags as inspiration. As well as raising awareness about fair trade, the workshops brought groups together to produce some powerful messages for a fairer world. These messages were on display at an exhibition in Liverpool World Museum between February and April 2007. (Photo: Sara Parker)
Fairtrade Fortnight 2007

School councillors and members of Liverpool Schools Parliament, representing Bishop Martin primary, Dovedale primary, and Calderstones High school, launch Fairtrade Fortnight 2007 with bananas at the Superlambanana in Liverpool.
To launch this year's fortnight, some of our FT Ambassadors and ministers from Liverpool Schools Parliament joined Cllrs Warren Bradley and Josie Mullen at a photo shoot at the landmark Superlambanana in Liverpool. They were helped by a large quantity of Fairtrade Bananas too!

Get Global! Event March 2007

Participants at our "Get Global" event try out different instruments to re-create the sounds of the Rainforest!
In our role of sub regional co-ordinator for the NWGEN, we hold regular events that link in to the core concepts of global education. In March this year (2007) we held a "Get Global!' event for teachers, learning mentors and LEA advisors, linking the global dimension to the Every Child Matters agenda. Our three workshops - Waking the Forest, Healthy Green Schools, and Young People Speaking up for Trade Justice - enabled people to think about the sometimes not so obvious links between the inspiring practice of global education and the wider policy agendas that schools must deliver on.
Comments from participants about the workshops at our Get Global! event in March 2007:
"Excellent! Brilliant ideas for developing global citizenship through cultural awareness."
"Very interesting. I found the materials and quality of delivering the project of a high standard."
"Very enjoyable! Would like more of the same ethos..."
"Eye opening!"
"A very enjoyable and most importantly thought provoking day!"
