Who is Involved

  Liverpool Hope University

This conference is a major outcome of the Development Awareness Fund (DAF) project based at Liverpool Hope University (2007-10) that seeks to embed the global dimension and active global citizenship within the curriculum of the Education Deanery.

Liverpool Hope is the only ITE provider funded in this way by the Department for International Development. The project was established on the foundations of over 20 years of experience promoting education for active citizenship through staff and students engaging in local and international volunteering and a range of sustained partnerships with educational institutions around the world.

One particular key objective of this project has been to embed the Global Dimension within the ITE curriculum. This has resulted in a series of initiatives and developments within the Primary and Secondary ITE provision and work carried out with partnership schools.  For example, the BAQTS 4 year course has recently introduced a compulsory 30 credit module ‘Wider Perspectives in Education’ that aims to enhance student engagement with educational issues beyond the school campus such as the promotion of community cohesion and elements of the global dimension, and inform their subsequent school based learning (teaching practice).  Liverpool Hope students complete curriculum enrichment projects in teams based upon partnership schools specific needs. Please contact Andrea Bullivant, Global Dimension in ITE Support Officer bulliva@hope.ac.uk  if you require further information.

 Liverpool World Centre

p

Liverpool World Centre is a voluntary organisation and charity which aims to raise awareness among the people of Merseyside about issues of global interdependence and global justice. We work with schools, communities and organisations across the five boroughs.

Liverpool World Centre's work involves running projects based on issues such as climate change, social justice, diversity and sustainability. We are also able to offer training for community groups in Participatory Methods and we maintain a Resource Hub which offers both sales and loans of a wide range of global education resources. Additionally, we act as a network between teachers, parents, community groups, schools and, most of all, children.
